Questions we hear most

Is moissanite a real gemstone?
Yes. Moissanite is silicon carbide, first found in a meteor crater in 1893. Gem quality moissanite is grown in a lab, and that is what we use. It is its own stone, not a diamond, and we always sell it as moissanite.

Does moissanite get cloudy or change color?
The stone does not cloud, fade or change color. Lotion and everyday film can dull the sparkle, so wash it in warm soapy water with a soft brush. The silver setting can darken slowly, like any sterling silver, and a silver polishing cloth brings the shine back.

Moissanite or diamond: what is the difference?
Diamond is harder (10 against 9.25) and has a whiter sparkle. Moissanite bends light more, so it shows more rainbow fire, and it costs a small part of the price. A jeweler can tell them apart with a moissanite tester.

What is a GRA certificate?
A GRA report is the specification card that comes with the stone: its color, clarity, size and its own report number. It ships in the box with the piece. It is not a lab certificate like GIA; our guide to the GRA report explains what it does and does not prove.

What does ct DEW mean?
Diamond equivalent weight: a 1 ct DEW stone is the size of a one carat diamond, about 6.5 mm across for a round cut. Moissanite is a little lighter than diamond, so the actual weight is slightly lower.
